One of Newcastle’s most popular drag artists will host a series of fun-filled events at Newcastle Library this weekend, aimed at highlighting Newcastle’s commitment to diversity.
Timberlina (pictured) will host a five-month series of glitter-filled storybook readings, dubbed Rainbow Families Storytime, at the library from this weekend, and will run on the first Saturday of the month until June.
The innovative twist on the traditional library storytime will be an all-singing, all-dancing, and all-storytelling extravaganza for the whole family.
“Rainbow Storytime is fun and inclusive, reflects our city’s diverse LGBTQ families and piggy-backs the creative community visiting the Olive Tree Markets in Civic park on the library’s doorstep,’ council’s community programs and partnerships manager Alex Mills said.
Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen added the events were a positive reflection of council’s commitment to inclusion, diversity, and literacy.
“This series is another way our libraries are delivering on the promotion of both diversity in our community and childhood literacy,” he said.ย
โOur Pride in Diversity Strategy helps ensure that our City services are welcoming for all Novocastrians. Our libraries are important community hubs. Rainbow Families Storytime is another way we can ensure all Novocastrians feel included by the range of free programming in our librariesโ
The first Rainbow Families Storytime kicks off at 10am on Saturday 1 February at Newcastle Library – 15 Laman Street, Newcastle.
No bookings are necessary and the events are completely free.
