La Ronde has officially hit the Spiegeltent in Civic Park with a show that makes you feel like you’ve wandered onto the dancefloor of Studio 54, only this time there’s a diva riding the disco ball above aerialists and daredevils.
La Ronde is a must-see sparkling kaleidoscope of circus, cabaret and funk-fuelled glamour that wraps you up in sequins, sass and sound.
This is a spectacle with a groove. The cast doesn’t just defy gravity and leave you completely baffled, they do it with a strut, a shimmy and a grin that dares you not to dance in your seat.
It’s high-octane energy from start to finish, with the kind of infectious vibe that makes the Spiegeltent feel like Newcastle’s hottest and most exclusive nightclub.
From Ukrainian aerial star Sergiy Mishchurenko, who brings the moves to his aerial pole act with a precision that stops the audience in their tracks and holds them captivated, to Polina, who spins like a mirrorball during her hair-handing act, showering the room in gasps and sparkle.
But it’s the music that binds the magic. The powerhouse vocals of Geniris electrify the tent, filling it with a soulful groove that could stop you mid-dance step.
Both making their Australian debut, Felipe Reyes and Diana Bondarenko perform acts that are truly insane and completely unique to anything I’ve seen before. They are incredibly powerful and hold onto the audience with every move.
For me, the star of the show was Melbourne’s Adam Malone, who takes the Washington Trapeze to funky new heights, serving drama, charisma and a flash of glitter in every daring drop. His presence is undeniable, and he is one of the most fabulous daredevils to pass through Newcastle.
José Carlos Campos, the clown prince of disco cabaret, keeps the energy high with razor-sharp timing, cheeky comedy, and a dash of retro romance. He is the perfect host, keeping the sparkle alive between acts and making sure the room stays in party mode.
La Ronde is a glitter-soaked invitation to lose yourself in a world of dazzling feats, funky beats and glamorous surprises. It’s theatre, it’s circus, it’s cabaret, but most of all, it’s a decadent disco of groove.
La Ronde runs from 5 September to 5 October at Spiegeltent Newcastle in Civic Park as part of New Annual. Tickets are on sale now via Spiegeltent Newcastle.
