Newcastle-born dancer and choreographer, Blake John Wood, is making his mark on the international music scene, working with some of the world’s biggest pop stars on tours, music videos and major live performances.
Now based in London, Blake has built an impressive career since leaving Newcastle in 2022, with choreography credits spanning JADE, FKA twigs and the Pussycat Dolls.
From major music festivals to some of the world’s most iconic stages, his work has taken him a long way from where it all began in the Hunter.
Blake’s dance journey started at just five years old at The Australian Dance & Talent Centre in Cardiff, before he went on to graduate from the Hunter School of the Performing Arts.
He later moved to Sydney to study at ED5 International, completing an Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts before making the move overseas to pursue opportunities in the industry.
A major turning point came when Blake began working with JADE, formerly of Little Mix, as she launched her solo career.
He choreographed across the campaign, including music videos and performances at the BRIT Awards at London’s O2 Arena, Glastonbury Festival, Capital’s Summertime Ball at Wembley and The Graham Norton Show, as well as her headline That’s Showbiz Baby! tour.
More recently, Blake stepped into the role of Head of Choreography for FKA twigs’ Body High Tour, with his work reaching audiences at Coachella and New York’s Madison Square Garden.
He has also contributed choreography to the Pussycat Dolls’ reunion tour, PCD Forever.
Before focusing predominantly on choreography, his performance credits included dancing with Kylie Minogue at WorldPride 2023, appearing in Dua Lipa’s Dance the Night music video for Barbie, and performing at the MTV European Music Awards and Vogue World: Paris.
Alongside his work with major artists, Blake regularly travels across the UK, Europe, South America and Asia to teach at dance events, sharing his experience with dancers around the world.
Despite his international career, Newcastle remains home, with his journey highlighting the opportunities that can grow from a passion nurtured right here in the Hunter. You can keep up to date with his journey on Instagram.
