Melbourne folk punks The Smith Street Band are blowing off the COVID cobwebs, announcing a 15-date national tour this week.
And the tour, which will see up-and-coming Victorian punks Money Boys will hit The Cambridge on Wednesday 15 September.
Never ones to rest on their laurels, despite touring looking vastly different in the time of COVID, The Smith Street Band, pushed on regardless, playing the revolving stage at the Yours and Owls festival, teamed up with The Brisbane Symphony Orchestra for two sold-out shows at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall.
Not to mention stripping their set back to bare essentials for seated crowds in Sydney, Melbourne and regional Victoria.
And with all fingers and toes crossed, the band will be returning to their rollicking, anthemic sing along and toe-tapping-laden roots, and fans will get to see the band as a five-piece for the first time with Lucy Wilson playing her last show with the band at Melbourne venue Max Watts this week.
It will also be the band’s first ‘proper’ tour since releasing their barnstorming 2020 long-player Don’t Waste Your Anger – the band’s fifth studio album that also delivered the band their first ARIA number one.
In. a case of time flies when your having fun, the tour also coincides with the ten year (no way it’s been that long) anniversary of their brilliant debut No One Gets Lost Anymore.
A band with a reputation for constant touring, The Smith Street Band spent much of the last 18 months keeping as busy as possible: releasing a studio album, three live albums, and lead singer Wil Wagner put out a solo album and re-released an old demo collection. With all six releases landing in the ARIA Album charts.
Catch The Smith Street Band at The Cambridge on Wednesday 15 September. Tickets are on sale from Wednesday 30 June.
