Australia’s favourite working class man Jimmy Barnes is back with a brand spanking new album and he wants you to join him in his lounge room to celebrate.
Well, not literally, of course, but the Aussie music icon will be streaming live on his Facebook page from 6.30pm on Saturday 3 July for an intimate stripped back set featuring tracks from the album Flesh and Blood, which dropped on Friday.
The event will see Jimmy and his wife Jane, alongside members of their formidably talented family, take six tracks from Flesh & Blood, strip them back and perform them live around the family piano.
The free live stream will be a special extension of the regular at-home performances by Jimmy and Jane (performing as “The Jane Barnes Band”) over the past 15 months, which have attracted more than 100 million views.
All ten songs on Flesh And Blood feature multiple contributions from the Barnes clan. Jimmy’s wife Jane duets with him, their son Jackie plays drums, daughters Mahalia, Eliza-Jane and Elly-May all contribute vocals, as does Jackie and Jimmy’s granddaughter, Tyra Harrison.
Son-in-law Benjamin Rodgers engineered the album, played bass and collaborated with Jimmy’s nephew, renowned photographer Jesse Lizotte, on the striking album cover.
Recorded during the peak of lockdown restrictions in 2020, the theme of family is evident throughout the album with the singles Flesh & Blood and Around In Circles perfect examples.
Jimmy has been showcasing the formidable talents of his family via his Facebook page offering up regular doses of positivity and musical masterfulness.
His stunning renditions of the Bee Gees’ To Love Somebody, and Ray Charles’ melancholic Little Hotel Room are two examples definitely worth a look.
