If you needed a sign of the festive season, seeing the Christmas Bus making its rounds around Newcastle is always a pretty telling one.
Well, start hanging those stockings on the mantle with care because the iconic yuletide cheer-bringer is back on the road!
The bus returned to active duty on Sunday 1 December and it’s certainly not hard to find your Christmas spirit with more than 1000 baubles, 100 metres of garland, 1200 lights adorning the vehicle.
And with carols playing inside the bus for the duration, only the Scroogiest of travellers will not be imbued with the spirit of the season.
Margaret Parnell, who has been the driving force behind the festive bus for the past 22 years said the cheer the bus brings to the community is pretty hard to pass up.
“I just love to see the smiles on everyone’s face when they step on-board, whether they are young or old,” she said.
“It’s a happy time of the year, and we feel lucky we can add to the excitement for our customers.”
Keolis Downer Hunter General Manager Mark Dunlop said the Christmas Bus was part of a wider festive campaign for the transport provider.
“We have extended our Christmas campaign across the Newcastle Transport network to reach more of our customers,” he said.
“Our trams have been renamed as one of Santa’s reindeers and our On-Demand buses are all sporting Rudolf noses.”
The Christmas Bus will be spreading Christmas cheer across the Newcastle Transport network in December. Head here to find out where it will be.
