The best ways to keep your festive dollars local this Christmas

‘Tis the season to show the city and your local businesses some love!

I won’t point any fingers, but local businesses have been doing it tough over the last little while and the festive season is your chance to really show your support.

But what to do, and how to do it? Here are our top five tips to shop local this festive season.

1. Markets

There are so many markets during the festive season and there is seriously no better way to shop local.

You’re there, you get to chat to the person (not just the face) behind the brand, and you’re directly supporting the thing they love to do.

Check out Homegrown Markets (the newest kid on the block when it comes to a platform for local wares) as a great example.

2. Etsy

Like to shop online? Like choices? Hello Etsy!

It’s still such an amazing platform to purchase all things delicious and handmade. You can shop by location, and it gives you a chance to check out who is behind the business and what they stand for.

3. Buy From The Bush

Because the second best thing to buying from local traders is to buy from those who are living in drought-affected or rural areas.

Now that is really spreading some awesome Christmas cheer.

4. Go in-store

Hi if you want to buy local, go in-store.

Darby Street, The Station, the folks in the Mall, The Junction. Small business owners are everywhere and they need and love our support. The festive season is the perfect time to show some extra love!

5. Plan ahead and buy something a little special (maybe something custom)

If you plan far enough ahead, you can actually take the time to buy something wonderful and custom for the ones you love.

Jewellery, clothing, you know what I mean here right? Show some love to our makers and shakers, traders and candlestick makers.

What a treat for all!
