NEWCASTLE ADVENT CALENDAR: Your ultimate guide to Christmas events from Newcastle’s Makers & Traders

Every day in December, Newcastle’s Makers and Traders will host exciting events across the city in celebration of Christmas. It’s all part of their Christmas Advent Calendar of Events 2019 promotion. And we’ve got all the info you need to make the most of it!

Every day there’ll be something to do or make, somewhere to visit or some great Makers and Traders to meet. There will be a mix of promotions, offers, events and get-togethers, all with the intent to foster community, intimacy and inclusion.

We’ve mapped out what’s planned for each day below.

SUNDAY DECEMBER 1
Furoshiki Wraps + Make Space for Christmas

Furoshiki Wraps

A Furoshiki is a type of Japanese wrapping cloth that’s traditionally and commonly used to transport gifts and goods. It’s an elegant, functional, reusable piece of cloth to wrap and fold, carry and hold things – like gifts, lunch boxes, fresh bread, a wine bottle, bundles of books. A Patch Jumble is a fun way to create your own Furoshiki using Mrs Woo’s fabric patches.

Instore Prizes

Support your local maker and trader retailers this Christmas and we’ll pay that love forward. Every day of the December Christmas calendar Makers & Trader members across the city will be giving away Christmas Advents to their loyal customers. One purchase at participating stores = one entry. To go into the running to win simply answer this question: If you had a shop in Newcastle, what would you call it? Designed by Diana Jones of Make Space Newcastle, the advent calendars gradually reveal Maker and Trader businesses. And every day, lucky winners will be drawn across the city to win a prize at that business-of-the-day. The 12th and 23rd of December are special bumper lucky dip days reserved for our newest maker & trader members to participate. Fancy a $100 voucher from Fringe Dweller by Gina Ermer, or perhaps a bespoke skirt from With Love Bree-Lacey? Support your local independent retailers and go into the draw for the mega prize, drawn these days.
