Spiegeltent Newcastle has thrown open the doors in Civic Park for their new show, The Party. And we’re here to tell you, it’s the wildest ride we’ve been on in a long time.
From the opening (reverse) strip tease to the naughty shower scene and a sock act that would even make the Red Hot Chili Peppers blush, the creators of the show, Strut and Fret, have taken the risqué to new levels here.
Scott Maidment, the mad genius behind all of Strut and Fret’s Spiegeltent productions is renowned for his ability to take a night at the theatre to new heights. But in The Party, he’s somehow taken his own convention and made it unconventional.
Forget what you think you already know about what goes on inside the tent and prepare yourself – nothing is off limits.
On stage, an unbelievably talented troupe of performers from all over the globe welcome you into their night of debauchery. You’re part of The Party.
There is plenty of flesh, acrobatics, in-your-face action and audience members on stage. But it’s not like you’ve seen it before.
Highlights of the night include a show-stopping foot juggling act that will have you holding your breath and on the edge of your seat, a stack of high-energy dance numbers (choreographed by LA’s Kevin Maher) and a shower scene (with real water) that you’ll be telling your friends about for weeks.
Oh – and be prepared to change the way you look at sock puppets forever. We’ve warned you.
We’d be spoiling your night out by revealing much more, but let’s just say if you’ve loved every show Strut and Fret have bought to town – The Party has really kicked it up a notch. And if you’ve never ventured into the tent that takes over Civic Park every year, this show is the perfect way to pop your cherry.
#PROTIP: Get to Civic Park early enough to be able to grab a round of cocktails and soak in the festival-like atmosphere before the show. There’s nothing like drinking in Civic Park under lights with a stack of people all dressed up and ready for a big night ahead.
