VOTED BY YOU: Where to get the best Sausage Roll in the Hunter Valley

The top 5 spots to secure a sausage roll in Newy and surrounds, as voted by you

1. Millers Pie & Sandwich Bar

After taking out our recent best vanilla slice gong, it seems that there is a lot of love for the baked goods coming out of Millers Pie & Sandwich Bar.

So, good news! You now have two reasons to sample this hot little bakery!

The humble Shortland eatery was deemed the best in show when it comes to the Aussie favourite with 17 votes separating them from their closest competitor.

They also have a spot at Argenton, too so just so there is more than one base covered.

2. Cardiff South Butchery & Pies

Coming in second, Cardiff South Butchery and Pies sausage rolls look the absolute business.

Generously portioned, golden brown and all meat, the ‘sausos’ at this joint, which come in regular and cheese and bacon varieties, are a fine example of what a sausage roll should be.

Oh, and their pie lineup looks pretty impressive, too.

3. Blakeney’s Pies East Maitland

Blakeney’s is a no fooling icon on the Hunter Valley baked goods scene, serving up their piping hot creations in East Maitland since 1992. So, it makes sense that they would make this list.

Like the number two entry, Blakeney’s sausage rolls tick all the boxes on when it comes to eye appeal, and this writer can attest to their tastiness on the palate.

If you’re in or around the East Maitland area, and have a hankering for a piping hot snack, Blakeney’s looks to be the place to go.

4. T&P’s Firestation Pie Shop

This eatery has been a fave of Novo noshers for some time and it’s not hard to see why. Their sausage rolls are the perfect temperature with golden brown, flaky pastry. Honestly, we’re getting hungry here just talking about it.

Former owners Terry and Patty (the T&P in the name) took control of the Union street shop back in 1975 and ran it until 2017, but the shop is still int he family and thankfully, the quality continues.

5. Grice’s Bakery and Café

It seems that the love for the sausage roll is just as strong ‘up the valley’ with Cessnock’s Grice’s Bakery and Café making the list.

There was a lot of love from voters for this Vincent Street eatery and given the competition for the sausage roll dollar in Cessnock and surrounds, that is really saying something.
