Songs From The Canyon brought the golden age of ‘60s and ‘70s Laurel Canyon music to life at the Civic Theatre over the weekend

The nine-piece ensemble—featuring Dan Kelly, folk duo Charm of Finches, Husky Gawenda, and Hannah Cameron—delivered a heartfelt tribute to the legends of that era.

The night unfolded as a harmony-driven journey through classics by The Mamas and the Papas, Beach Boys, Joni Mitchell, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Neil Young and more.

With seven microphones spread across the stage, the setup hinted at the vocal richness to come, and it delivered in spades. The harmonies were so precise, warm, and textured that they earned audible gasps from the crowd.

Charm of Finches’ sisterly blend was particularly striking, while Cameron’s take on Joni Mitchell drew murmurs of appreciation from the audience, many of whom clearly had a deep connection to the era.

This was Songs From The Canyon’s first time performing in Newcastle, and they left with a standing ovation and a wave of new fans.
