Matt Field has taken to the Music People Instagram account calling for change after Adamstown Bowlo made the decision to cancel live music in the beer garden due to complaints from “one neighbour”.
“We’ve had to make the decision to cancel live music in the beer garden on Friday and Saturday nights moving forward because of one neighbour, and that’s really devastating. But it’s the truth,” Matt said during the video which you can watch in full below.
“This one neighbour approached our staff member on our boundary, made her feel really unsafe, swore at her, and she left the situation in tears. And that’s not okay. We can’t have our staff treated like that and we basically can’t continue to run live music on Saturday nights until the situation surrounding this one neighbour gets sorted.”
“Over $100,000 has been invested from this club into live music in the last five months,
“A study by the New South Wales Live Music Office has shown that $100,000 generates three times the revenue for the local business economy. So when one neighbour is responsible for bringing down the venue, we actually lose over $300,000 from the local business economy in five months alone.”
The canning of live music outside at Adamstown Bowlo comes on the back of the news that the Seven Seas Hotel in Carrington was forced to cancel seven weeks of live music programming due to a similar issue.
Matt is also calling for musicians and music industry stakeholders from all over the region to attend a town hall meeting organised by Create NSW which will be held tonight, Monday 24 July, at Fort Scratchley Function Centre from 5:30 pm.
Itโs a meeting that will give people from the local industry a chance to shape New South Walesโ first integrated arts, culture, and creative industries policy.
