Young People’s Theatre is set to bring the enchanting underwater world of Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR to life this October.
Loved by audiences of all ages, the adaptation, based on the classic Hans Christian Andersen tale and Disney’s beloved animated film, is set to be the hottest school holiday ticket in town.
Directed by Maddie Watts, with musical direction by Amelia Accardi, the production is supported by a dedicated creative team including choreographers Brynn Jackson and Jade Wainwright.
“This show is an incredibly special one for me – I consider The Little Mermaid movie to be the start of my theatre journey,” Watts said.
“I was obsessed with the movie and wanted to sing just like Ariel! This is why I’m taking particular care to make sure that my direction of this production will bring all the beauty, wonder and magic that I always associate with the story by pulling the iconic moments of the story and re-imagining them through a whimsical set of drapery, light and shadow to create an environment that feels like the performers are fully immersed in the underwater world.”

The show features iconic songs like Under the Sea, Kiss the Girl, and Part of Your World, composed by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater.
With beloved characters like, King Triton, Ursula, and Prince Eric will be brought to life by the talented YPT cast audiences will be drawn into the journey as Ariel navigates her dreams of living on land, her conflict with her father, and her encounter with the cunning sea witch Ursula.
