UPDATE: Unfortunately, due to weather, tonight’s Women in Sport Try a Sport expo alongside Music in the Podium has been cancelled. The Try a Sport Expo has been moved to next Friday, 14 March, and will be held alongside the Music in Podium performance by Anyerin Duo.

LAKE MAC WOMEN IN SPORT FESTIVAL

WHEN: 7–16 March
WHERE: Various venues across Lake Macquarie

This annual festival celebrates and empowers women and girls in sports. The festivities commence with an all-female lineup at Music in the Podium on 7 March. Attendees can also participate in the Try a Sport expo, offering opportunities to experience sports like tennis, rugby, croquet, and aikido. Throughout the week, local sporting groups will host sessions, allowing participants to explore new sports and connect with the community.

ONE ACT PLAY FESTIVAL

WHEN: Saturday 5 April
WHERE: Warners Bay Theatre, baramayiba

The Lake Macquarie One Act Play Festival is a theatre competition showcasing short, sharp, and exhilarating one-act plays from Lake Macquarie and beyond. The festival aims to bring together local, state, and national playwrights and performers to develop and strengthen the skills and experience of performing artists within Lake Macquarie. Featuring plays that explore our society through story and performance, the festival will bring the best of established and amateur theatre to the Lake Macquarie stage.

The celebrations continue throughout March, with highlights such as the Quad Crown Black Pearl mountain biking event, the Lookout Festival, the Lake Mac Triathlon, and performances by Eishan Ensemble, Unfurl, and NGAIIRE. Whether you enjoy live entertainment, sailing regattas, or outdoor adventures, there’s something for everyone in this extended festival.

SONGS OF THE SOUTHERN SKIES VOL 2

Get ready for a night of enchanting melodies as beloved vocalist Katie Noonan teams up with internationally renowned guitarist Karin Schaupp. The pair have an intuitive musical connection that has developed over the course of their 20-year creative relationship. Their collaborations to date have earned them an ARIA Award and widespread praise. Their latest co-creation, Songs of the Southern Skies Volume 2, once again promises to enchant national audiences. Together they return to their acclaimed Southern Skies catalogue, reinterpreting some of their favourite songs by antipodean artists—this time focusing on some of our finest female artists. Expect reimagined arrangements of songs by artists such as Aunty Ruby Hunter, Missy Higgins, Sia, Kate Ceberano, Sarah Blasko, and more.

AUTUMN SERENADES: WITH MOZART, HAYDN & FRIENDS

WHEN: 4pm Sunday 27 April
WHERE: Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima

Join us for an enchanting evening at the Multi-Arts Pavilion, mima as we present Autumn Serenade: Mozart, Haydn & Friends. This special chamber music concert features four of the Hunter region’s most acclaimed musicians, promising a day of exquisite classical music that will transport you to the refined courts and salons of the 18th century.
