Newcastle-based electronic music heavyweight What So Not is stepping into a new era, announcing his upcoming EP I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY and unveiling its powerful first single, Everest featuring Ukrainian artist Alina Pash.

The genre-defining producer, who helped shape the global trap and bass music movement throughout the 2010s, is returning to the sound that first made his name.

Everest serves as the opening chapter of the new project, blending cinematic production, thunderous beats and soaring synths with Pashโ€™s striking vocal performance.

The result is an emotional and atmospheric track that moves from delicate beauty to tribal intensity, creating what feels like both a battle cry and a celebration of resilience.

The collaboration was born during an impromptu studio session in Los Angeles, where the pair created the song the first time they worked together.

Pash contributed a mantra written in her native Ukrainian language, centred on strength, unity and perseverance during difficult times. Those themes sit at the heart of the track, which also shines a spotlight on Ukrainian culture and identity through its powerful lyrics and performance.

To bring the vision to life, What So Not enlisted a creative team that included Jonti Wild and Lucille Croft, with the accompanying visuals filmed in the Blue Mountains.

Inspired by Pashโ€™s upbringing in Ukraineโ€™s Carpathian Mountains, the Australian landscape provided a fitting backdrop for a song named after the worldโ€™s highest peak. The video was captured while the producer was touring Australia, helping transform the songโ€™s ambitious imagery into reality.

The release also marks a symbolic reset for What So Not. In a bold move, he wiped his social media accounts clean, replacing years of archived content with a single post introducing the themes behind the new project.

The EP explores artistic identity, nostalgia, creative evolution and the lasting influence of the electronic music movement that helped define a generation.

It also sees the producer reconnecting with the trap sound he helped pioneer, blending its raw energy with years of experience across drum and bass, cinematic songwriting and global musical influences.

Everest featuring Alina Pash is out now on streaming platforms, while I SAW A TRAP DJ AND IT CHANGED MY BIO CHEMISTRY is set for release later this year.
