Weather cancels events in Lake Macquarie this weekend

Due to this week’s severe weather and heavy rain, a number of events scheduled to go ahead at Lake Macquarie parks this weekend have been cancelled.

Council’s Manager CiviLake, Peter Murray, said parks across the City are still inundated following yesterday’s downpour.

“Our horticulturalists have inspected parks across the City this morning and with more rain forecast today and tomorrow, a decision has been made to close all parks to vehicles across the weekend,” Mr Murray said.

“This, unfortunately, means the cancellation of events including the Art Bazaar at Speers Point Park, Movie in the Park at Toronto and our Lake Macquarie Family Week live site at Belmont.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused, however, this preventative action is necessary to protect our green spaces from unintended damage.”

Residents are also reminded that Weir Road at Barnsley remains closed to traffic. Council will update the community when the road reopens.
