Dashville Community Records has officially launched at The Gum Ball over the weekend, bringing a fresh wave of regional creativity to the forefront and planting its roots firmly in the Newcastle live-music landscape.

Born from the long-running Dashville crew, the same creative engine behind The Gum Ball, Dashville Skyline and Thrashville, the new label represents a natural evolution for a community that’s been making, recording and celebrating original music for more than two decades.

Its ethos is simple: musicians supporting musicians, working collectively, and keeping the spirit of genuine art alive.

The idea has been simmering for years, sparked during late-night conversations after gigs and lifted by the sheer volume of talent emerging from the Dashville orbit.

With the Tractor Shed studio, live-recording setups, and a fiercely passionate creative family already in place, the label arrives as an extension of what Dashville does best, championing those who make the music that moves the community forward.

Dashville Community Records launches with a roster stacked with familiar favourites and emerging voices: Johnston City, Magpie Diaries, Georgie Winchester, Kingsley James, CJ Stranger, Max Marvell, Dave Wells and Joey Leigh Wagtail.

Together, they embody the co-operative’s mission of forging music with authenticity, grit and heart, while pushing back against an increasingly algorithm-driven world.

A slate of new releases is already locked and loaded, with Johnston City’s Decies Pride, Magpie Diaries’ LP Some Kind of View, and CJ Stranger’s EP Folk Songs for End Times leading the charge.

It’s just the beginning, with the label hinting at many more records waiting in the wings, ready to be rolled out across festivals, studios, and whatever strange, beautiful locations inspire creativity next.

Dashville Community Records had its official launch at The Gum Ball on Sunday, 26 April 2026. You can follow DCR on Bandcamp and Instagram.
