Regional council leaders dealing with the rising number of COVID cases and lagging vaccination rates were disappointed on Friday when NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet declined to meet them ahead of the reopening to Sydneysiders.
For Newcastle Deputy Lord Mayor Declan Clausen the rejection hit hard given that the Hunter was grappling with a considerable surge in the weeks leading into reopening.
