Darby Street bar 5 Sawyers will be awash with French elegance this month to celebrate Bastille Day.
Bastille Day or ‘la Fête nationale‘ is France’s national day which commemorates the anniversary of Storming of the Bastille on 14 July 1789, a turning point of the French Revolution.
Just as revolutionary is what 5 Sawyers has planned to mark the auspicious occasion.
On arrival, guests will receive a glass of Tamburlaine bubbles that will be served by a “Moet Doll” and while mingling you will also have the chance to enjoy a French-themed grazing board (featuring French cheeses, pate, baguettes and more yummy surprises) prepared by 5 Sawyers’ very own French chef Flossie.
Another highlight is sure to be a Moulin Rouge show including the iconic Can Can, feather dance routines, amazing costumes and a massive finale – all backed by the hits from Moulin Rouge performed live.
Guests will also be served a selection of three savoury canapés including Croque Monsieur, mussels and brouillade aux truffles (scrambled eggs with truffle).
A decadent profiterole dessert with melted chocolate and ice cream will cap off the menu with aplomb.
As the venue is known for their amazing cocktails, it’s fitting that there will be two French-inspired creations on offer, for just $10 on the night – the L’Originale (vodka, strawberry liqueur, elderflower syrup, lemon juice and topped with Sprite) and the classic French 75 with a Twist.
This cocktail otherwise known as a Soixante Quinze features Tanqueray Gin, Chombard, lemon juice and bubbles.
It dates back to World War I and an early iteration was created in 1915 at the New York Bar in Paris. It gained its name due to its kick – said to be similar to that of a French 75mm field gun!
The 5 Sawyers Bastille Day celebration is on Sunday 14 July from 2pm to 4pm. Get your tickets here.
