If there is a silver lining to these current lockdown restrictions, it may very well be that the current stay-at-home orders present the perfect time for a bit of self-improvement.
And that’s a fact not lost on Newcastle-based training company Forsythes who is, this month, offering a free online course aimed at people whose working hours have been reduced during lockdown.
The one-day course will focus on building emotional intelligence and is a unit of competency from the nationally accredited Diploma in Leadership and Management.
Forsythes Training Director Julie Carrol said the free training was a great way for people to upskill during lockdown adding that while it was ideal for people working in such sectors as hospitality, and retail, the course could be beneficial across all sectors.
โIQ is a measure of intelligence but Emotional Quotient (EQ) measures how well you interact with people,โ Julie said. โThe more EQ a person has, the better they recognise emotions in themselves and others.โ
โThis helps them manage these emotional states to help motivate people and have better relationships.โ
Julie added that rather than relying on rote learning, the course takes a much more interacti4ve and hands-on approach, despite being delivered online.
โWhen we say online training, we mean using ZOOM with a trainer to give all the benefits of classroom training in a flexible and COVID-19 safe way<‘ Julie said.
โThis training is not just a series of online videos or boring PowerPoint presentations and quizzes. You get to interact with the trainer and other participants, to ask questions and learn from one another.
The Emotional Intelligence course will run on Wednesday 22 September from 9am to 3.30pm and to be eligible you must have experienced reduced working hours due to COVID lockdowns.
