Australian funk rock icons Skunkhour are set to hit Newcastle this October as part of their Up To Our Necks In It (For 30 Years) national tour.

The run celebrates three decades since the release of their cult 1995 single Up To Our Necks In It, a track that cemented their place in Australian music history.

Emerging from Sydney in the early ’90s, Skunkhour fused hip-hop, funk, rock and acid jazz into a sound entirely their own.

The release of Up To Our Necks In It propelled them from local favourites to international acclaim, with the track featuring in triple j’s Hottest 100, gaining airplay across commercial and community radio, and even helping secure a deal with UK label Acid Jazz Records.

The anniversary tour promises more than just a nostalgic experience. Fans can expect a set stacked with dynamic funk-driven favourites, reworked classics, deep cuts from their catalogue, and newer material from recent releases.

The band say the live shows are more powerful than ever, thanks to their rejuvenated lineup and renewed focus on the groove-heavy side of their sound.

Across three decades, Skunkhour have built a reputation as one of the country’s most enduring acts. From their early days sharing stages with INXS and the Beastie Boys to repeated chart success and countless festival appearances, their legacy lies in defying genres and generations.

The story behind Up To Our Necks In It is as unique as the band itself. Born from a dream that guitarist Warwick Scott brought to rehearsal, the track evolved organically, blending introspective lyrics with soulful melodies and funky rhythms.

It remains their most popular track on streaming platforms and a guaranteed crowd favourite at live shows.

Skunkhour’s Up To Our Necks In It (For 30 Years) tour kicks off in October, with the band bringing the party to King Street Bandroom, Newcastle, on Saturday 25 October. The show is all ages, and tickets are on sale now via Oztix.
