There’s an old Persian saying that goes something like “this, too, shall pass.” And as rumblings of relaxed restrictions get louder, the light at the end of the lockdown tunnel seems, at least for now, tor be getting slightly brighter.

That got us to thinking about that glorious time when we are able venture out of our homes for things other than groceries, and re-experience all this glorious city has to offer.

In that spirit, here are some things that we here at Newcastle Live are looking forward to in a post-lockdown Newcastle

Packed local gigs

If we were to name one thing that we miss most in the current climate, it would have to be gigs.

While we realise that cramming into a packed Cambo, Lass, Staysh, Wicko et al on a Saturday night isn’t going to happen in the next few weeks…it will happen eventually and oh what a wonderful day that will be.

Given that many of our local musos (and the people that run venues that showcase these talents) have had their livelihoods effectively taken away, it is imperitave that we strongly support live music when it becomes a thing again because we definitely don’t want to lose it forever.

Oh and we also can’t wait to hear all the great tunes that Newy bands have been working on while in isolation.

More local business love

One of the most heartening things to come out of this insidious pandemic is the amount of love Newy has shown local businesses.

With businesses, especially those in the local hospitality industry, having to fundamentally change the way they operate just to stay afloat, there has been a palpable sense that the people of Newcastle are doing their best to support our local economy and culture – even though we are all doing it tough at the moment.

Great stuff, Newy – and here’s hoping that love of localism only continues to grow in a post-COVID Newcastle.

Going out just…because!

There was a time, believe it or not, when you could just hop in the car and go for a bit of a cruise if the mood took.

Remember those meandering Sunday drives up to Pokolbin to check out a few cellar doors or just going for a stroll to check out our glorious coastline just because it was a nice day?

Well, we certainly do and we can’t wait for the day when we can hop in the car and rediscover everything this region has to offer.

Supermarkets full of toilet paper

There will come a time when you can visit a supermarket safe in the knowledge that the shelves will be STACKED with toilet paper of all manner of brands and ply and that you won’t have to worry about being attacked because you managed to snag the last ten-pack of Quilton.

Honestly, though, this toilet paper nonsense has been one of the strangest side effects of the pandemic and one we still can’t figure out.
