Today, Newcastle’s Morgan Evans releases his full-length debut album, Things That We Drink To. The album release follows Morgan’s first U.S. number 1 single, Kiss Somebody and a sold-out Australian tour. We asked him what it was like to be “an overnight success”.
“Ha ha ha, actually I don’t mind when people say that. I’ve been doing this so long I appreciate every moment” He says over the phone from Nashville.
Of course, Morgan is anything but an overnight success. At the age of 13, Morgan performed his first gig in Newcastle and was a regular in the city’s live music scene until he moved permanently to Nashville.
“When the chart came through and I saw that Kiss Somebody was number one; That moment gave me chance to stop and celebrate and really appreciate all the hard work that’s gone into it,” he says.
But packing up your life and moving to the other side of the world to chase your dream isn’t all sunshine and rainbows.
“You put everything you’ve got into it, you know. And without a flight booked to get back home, Nashville can become a lonely place. You’re just in an Airbnb by yourself. Defiantly the hardest 2 years of my life but I found out who I was that’s for sure”.
Morgan Evans’ full-length debut album, Things That We Drink To is out now.
