Legendary Australian comedy duo The Umbilical Brothers are returning to Newcastle with their beloved show Speedmouse for a one-night-only celebration of its 25th anniversary.

The Civic Theatre will host the fast-paced, award-winning performance in March, promising audiences a night of physical comedy at its finest.

Speedmouse has been performed in over 40 countries and has earned the Umbilicals numerous accolades, including BAFTAs, an Emmy, the Critics’ Choice at Edinburgh Fringe, and a Helpmann Award for Best Comedy Performers.

The show’s combination of live action, physical prowess, and innovative sound effects has cemented it as a cornerstone of Australian comedy.

The performance is a whirlwind of rewind, slow motion, and frame-by-frame antics, where two men, Dave and Shane, create the impossible using only a microphone and their extraordinary physical skills. Fans of the show know it as a legendary spectacle that inspired their acclaimed series The Upside Down Show and a multi-platinum DVD beloved worldwide.

Beyond the laughs, Speedmouse has become a rite of passage for comedians and comedy fans alike. It’s a show that blends imagination, timing, and pure physical comedy to create a live experience that is unmatched in both energy and creativity.

Joining Dave and Shane on stage is their mysterious Roadie, adding yet another layer of unpredictable fun to the performance. Audiences can expect to be amazed, bewildered, and entertained from start to finish, exactly what has made the Umbilicals’ work iconic for decades.

The Umbilical Brothers perform Speedmouse at Civic Theatre Newcastle on Saturday 7 March at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now via civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
