Bangarra Dance Theatre will bring one of its most celebrated productions to the Civic Theatre in February.

The Light Inside will hit Newcastle as part of the company’s regional tour following a highly praised premiere in 2024.

Led by First Nations choreographers Moss Te Ururangi Patterson and Deborah Brown, the highly acclaimed and groundbreaking work explores the resilience and cultural ties between Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander, and Mฤori peoples.

Together, Moss Te Ururangi Patterson, a descendant of New Zealandโ€™s Ngฤti Tลซwharetoa tribe and Deborah Brown, an alumna of Bangarra and proud descendant of the Wakaid Clan and Meriam people, weave a tale of identity and belonging, celebrating the cultural forces that connect Australia, the Torres Strait Islands, and Aotearoa (New Zealand).

It’s a visually stunning production showcasing the interconnectedness of water, sky, and the concept of home.

“The Light Inside is the fresh and dynamic product of an important relationship between two First Nations artists, exploring cultural kinship with water and sky, and what it means to call somewhere home,” artistic director, Frances Rings said.

“I canโ€™t wait to share this story with the communities across regional New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria. This tour is an opportunity to open audiences up to a broader global First Nations perspective, sharing issues that impact our People and Country across the ocean.”

Bangarra Dance Theatre will bring The Light Inside to the Civic Theatre in Newcastle for shows on 20 and 21 February 2025. For more information visit civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
