Newcastle’s skate scene will get a global spotlight put on it when the Jackalope Block Party rolls into town in November.

After making its mark in cities across North America, the action-sports festival will make its first-ever international stop in Newcastle, transforming our beachfront skatepark into a two-day celebration of skateboarding, street culture, art and music.

The festival’s centrepiece will be a unique hybrid competition that merges the skatepark’s street and bowl sections into one course.

Participants will be scored equally on their street and bowl runs, testing their versatility in a format that has become a signature of the Jackalope tour. Invited pros, including Beaver Fleming (USA) and Mia Kretzer (Australia) will join local skaters and up-and-coming riders, all vying for an all-expenses-paid trip to compete at Jackalope Virginia Beach in 2026.

The free event is pitched as a true community celebration, weaving in music, food and local flavour alongside the sport.

There’ll be a vendor village, athlete signings, food trucks, live painting with Newcastle artist Mitch Revs and even exclusive surf sessions with Newcastle Surf School.

Saturday’s music program includes local outfit Maple’s Pet Dinosaur, before Birdman Band cranks out a high-energy Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater tribute to keep the after-party vibe rolling late into the night.

Organisers anticipate up to 10,000 people across the weekend, a crowd that will help local businesses while giving Newcastle a moment on the world stage. With Jackalope’s social media drawing more than three million views in 2023, the event is set to showcase the city’s coastal lifestyle to a global audience.

The Jackalope Block Party lands at South Newcastle Beach Skate Park on 14 and 15 November 2025. Visit jackalope.tribu.co to find out more.
