Households across the region are preparing for the annual Garage Sale Trail.
The event, which has become Australia’s largest secondhand sale, is set to take place over two weekends in November.
Known as Australia’s largest secondhand sale, the community-led event encourages residents to host garage sales, declutter their homes and earn a bit of extra cash.
To make things easier, participants can access free guides, sale tips, and promotional materials to maximize their success. Shoppers on the hunt for bargains are expected to find a wide range of preloved essentials and unique treasures at discounted prices.
This yearโs Garage Sale Trail is expected to involve up to 500,000 Australians, with 15,000 garage sales and around three million secondhand items up for grabs nationwide.
Maitland City Council is one of more than 80 councils across Australia partnering with the Garage Sale Trail initiative. The goal is to promote secondhand buying and selling as a sustainable way to reduce household waste.
“Joining or shopping the trail, whether youโre participating for just one day or all four, is a simple and fun way to make or save a buck and keep quality, usable items out of landfill,” Maitland City Council Manager Environment and Sustainability, Catherine Pepper said.
“Choosing to reuse plays a big part in reducing the amount of waste we create into the future, so we encourage everyone to get involved in the Garage Sale Trail and begin building sustainable practices into your daily life.”
The 2024 Garage Sale Trail is happening on 9โ10 and 16โ17 November. You can register your very own sale or browse for nearby garage sales by visiting garagesaletrail.com.au.
