Can you believe it’s been 30 years since Daryl Braithwaite released his version of The Horses?
His cover of the song, originally penned by Rickie Lee Jones and Walter Becker, has become ubiquitous at pubs, clubs, sporting events and celebrations around the country. And now the song is being used as part of McDonald’s’ 50 years in Australia advertising campaign.
So to celebrate this momentous occasion,Braithwaite has released a stack of merchandise that is bound to pick you up, pick you up out of your lockdown blues.

Daryl Braithwaite’s version of the song first appeared on this album Rise. The song was then released as a single in January 1991.
And while Margaret Urlich provided the backing vocals on the recording of the song, she was unable to appear in the music video so Gillian Mather got the role and lipsyncedUrlich’s parts.
It was a massive hit forBraithwaite along with other singles from the album including the title track and an anthemic pop number called Higher Than Hope. The recording of his version of The Horses has been certified nine-times platinum in Australia.
