Local band The Dirt Files have officially unveiled their debut album, Chapter 1, a collection of hand-picked covers that showcase the band’s love for music in its purest form.
What started as a casual side project among friends has evolved into a fully realised record, packed with songs that have been carefully curated, recorded, and produced over the years.
The band is comprised of some of Newcastle’s most loved musos, including Lee Rolfe, Karyn Raftery, Lennie Edgerton, and Michael Stove and originally formed as an excuse to hang out more while playing music.
Their sessions in the studio weren’t dictated by a specific vision or theme but were instead driven by spontaneous enthusiasm for songs they admired. If someone suggested a song, they simply recorded it, leading to an eclectic and diverse tracklist that reflects their varied musical tastes.
The entire album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Lee Rolfe, ensuring a cohesive sound that stays true to the spirit of their jam sessions.
Adding to the album’s depth, the band also enlisted the talents of Dave Carter, Ross Flynn, and Mark Wells, who contributed to select tracks.
Listeners can expect a raw and heartfelt approach to some well-loved classics from Sade, Whitesnake and more, with The Dirt Files’ attention to detail such as guitar and vocal tones. The result is an album that feels intimate, nostalgic, and full of genuine passion for music.
With their first full-length release now available, The Dirt Files are inviting fans, old and new, to experience their take on these beloved songs. Stream the full album here.
