The Church are bringing their most ambitious live show yet to Newcastle this November, unveiling A Psychedelic Symphony at the Civic Theatre in November.
The iconic Australian band will be joined by a full 30-piece symphony orchestra for an immersive reimagining of their greatest works.
The show pairs The Church’s unmistakable art-rock sound with sweeping orchestral arrangements, creating a lush, cinematic retelling of the songs fans know by heart.
From the ethereal pull of Under the Milky Way to the shimmering melodies of Almost With You, the performance promises to elevate the band’s signature atmosphere into something grander and more expansive.
Led by celebrated conductor and composer George Ellis, the orchestra adds new depth and texture to a catalogue already rich in sonic detail. The collaboration highlights the band’s ability to evolve without ever losing the enigmatic quality that has defined their four-decade career.
With Ellis guiding the arrangements, each track is reshaped with crescendos, flourishes and moments designed to surprise even the most devoted longtime listeners.
The Psychedelic Symphony is far from a standard greatest-hits show. Instead, it’s pitched as a rare opportunity to hear The Church’s music transformed and enhanced by sweeping violins, bold brass sections and atmospheric strings that accentuate the band’s innate sense of drama.
It’s a celebration of an Australian act that has consistently pushed artistic boundaries while remaining firmly anchored in its own distinct identity.
