Since news of the closing of The Cambridge Hotel became public, there has been an outcry of protest and alarm over the city losing one of its most iconic live music venues.
June this year will see The Cambridge make way for student accommodation that includes a heritage adaptation of the hotel, a food and beverage space and some retail outlets.
Now, we know the management team at The Cambridge arenโt going to go out without a celebration in June but, as yet, we donโt have any details. In the meantime though, the historic venue is getting us all warmed up with a stellar line-up of shows.
While this year the venue has delivered us diverse offerings such as The Thundamentals and The Scientists, this weekend things get turned up a notch further.
Friday night sees The Cambridge hosting Bodyjar and Gyroscope as well as the Pierce Brothers.
Bodyjar released New Rituals back in February 2022, their first album since Role Model back in 2013. The pop-punksters were one of the first bands to do a live gig after the COVID lockdowns and they are keen to hit the Cambridge stage this Friday night. Hopefully, the guys will do their famous cover of โHazy Shade Of Winterโ.
Perth rockers Gyroscope share the stage with Bodyjar on the night and will doubtlessly present some of the great tracks from their 2008 #1 album Breed Obsession and its follow up Cohesion from 2010.
The Pierce Brothers, from Melbourne, have been taking the music world by storm since releasing their breakout EP The Night Tree in 2014. The guys started out busking in Melbourneโs Bourke St. along other buskers such as Tash Sultana and Tones & I. Now, following the release of their sophomore album Into The Great Unknown, the indie-folk/blues & roots duo are playing to sell-out crowds pretty much wherever they perform. Friday nightโs show will be massive and include the singles from the album, โItโs Alright, Brotherโ and โOneโ as well as many fan favourites.

Donโt miss your chance to be a part of history as the beloved Cambridge serves up some of the best live music in Australia, as it always has.
