Sydney Dance Company will take over the Civic Theatre Newcastle this August for a one-night-only performance of momenta, a bold and electrifying new work from acclaimed choreographer Rafael Bonachela.
Featuring former National College of Dance student Morgan Hurrell, now an ensemble dancer with the internationally celebrated company, momenta is a powerful exploration of human connection, where tenderness meets intensity, and individuality merges into collective energy.
The incredible one-act performance, which showcases the sheer athleticism and emotional depth of some of the countryโs most accomplished dancers, has received rave reviews from both critics and audiences.

Bonachelaโs choreography has been heralded for pushing physical boundaries, with the performance seeing dancers move with both precision and vulnerability through a dynamic score by composer Nick Wales.
At its core, momenta is a poetic celebration of our shared humanity. The work captures fleeting, intimate exchanges and the monumental power of unity. It moves through crescendos of movement and emotion, culminating in a release that is both joyous and cathartic.
Enhanced by Elizabeth Gadsbyโs striking stage design and Damien Cooperโs evocative lighting, momenta makes for a deeply immersive night at the theatre you’re bound to be talking about for years to come.
Sydney Dance Company will bring momenta to the Civic Theatre on Wednesday, 6 August. Tickets are on sale now, and discounts are available for concessions and group bookings. Visit civictheatrenewcastle.com.au.
