Newcastle company has launched Australia’s first online package-free supermarket.

Sustain Grocery founder, Amanda Rooney was driven by a personal desire to change the way Australians treated household plastic waste.

“I think everyone wants to reduce their waste to help the environment, but the existing solutions are inconvenient, time-consuming and often really expensive,” Amanda said.

Launched in May this year, Sustain Grocery not only helps their customers reduce the amount of plastic waste they create, but they also offer affordable products which are comparable to supermarket prices.

The company buys their products directly from suppliers in bulk and go so far as to only source the most ethical of products, they look at everything from being local, organic, quality, affordable and of course using returnable packaging with their suppliers.

How does it work?

The first thing a customer needs to do is sign-up to a waitlist to help Sustain Grocery manage demand and to ensure the infrastructure and logistics can service all of their existing customers.

Once you’re accepted as a customer, you order online, and your groceries are delivered straight to your door.

Once the jars are empty, you collect them in the same Sustain Grocery bag and leave them out to be collected the next time your order is dropped off.
