South Australian actor, John Noble is best known for his roles as Denethor from The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Dr Walter Bishop of Fringe. We spoke to him last week about the Supanova pop culture expo that rolls into Sydney Olympic Park on June 17 – 19, and he told us why Novocastrians should make the road trip to experience this exciting event.

“There’s nothing else like it for fans” John tells us over the phone.

“The fans always seem to know more about the films and games I’ve worked with, and I love that”.

Supanova Pop Culture Expo began in Sydney in 2002 as a completely home-grown Australian production showcasing sci-fi, fantasy, comic books, anime, manga, games, cosplay and much more. is where fandom comes to life, celebrating the worlds of film and television, fantasy, comic books, anime, sci-fi, cartoons, books, gaming and collectables. There’s ‘cosplay’ (costume-role play), fan clubs, musical performances, creative master classes, wrestling, tournaments and competitions, and an expo full of shopping possibilities meaning there something for everyone to make sure every fan has had a blast!

This year the event brings a new round of superstars for fans to meet and discuss their favourite works with, including Deadpool duo Brianna Hildebrand and Stefan Kapicic. Also appearing at the 2016 event are actors Peter Facinelli and Tyler Hoechlin, Brian Krause who played Leo Wyatt in the cult series Charmed, Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings), James Marsters and Julie Benz (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Troy Baker (Batman: Arkham), Jeremy Shada (Adventure Time), Sean Schemmel and Christopher Sabat (Dragon Ball Z), plus many more listed at www.supanova.com.au/guests.

In Australia John Noble is recognised for his roles on Young Lions, Home & Away, Devil’s Playground, Rake and All Saints (as Dr. John Marsden) but he’s also worked on some smash hit video games too, including 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight.

“I’m not a gamer myself, but I’ve found the voice work I’ve done for video games extremely rewarding. I’m not sure people realise how much work and how many years go into producing a game like  Arkham Knights. I returned to the studio several times to add dialog from new things the developers were adding, to the point where Rocksteady Studios were begging then to stop so they could release the game”.
