The 2026 Mother’s Day Classic is set to bring a wave of colour, community spirit and purpose to Newcastle, with this year’s event once again raising vital funds for breast and ovarian cancer research.
The annual fun run and walk is Australia’s largest Mother’s Day fundraiser, and the Stockton Foreshore will play host to the local edition.
Now in its 29th year, the Mother’s Day Classic continues to unite thousands across the country in honour of those affected by breast and ovarian cancer.
A huge lineup of sporting icons, media personalities and high-profile ambassadors will take part nationally, helping drive awareness and support for ongoing research.
The event’s long-running success has contributed to a more than 40 per cent reduction in breast cancer mortality since its inception.
Participants in Newcastle will join the movement from Griffith Park, following a flat and scenic 5km loop along the Stockton foreshore.
The route takes in some of the city’s most picturesque vantage points, with views across the Hunter River, Newcastle Harbour, Nobbys Lighthouse and Stockton Beach.
The course is pram-friendly, wheelchair-friendly and designed to welcome runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.
The morning will offer much more than just a run or walk. The event village will come to life from 7am with a live DJ, kids entertainment, flowers and gifts for mum, food and coffee vendors, raffles and plenty of community energy.
Participants can choose from two walk start times, a run start time, and enjoy a morning filled with connection, remembrance and celebration.
Organisers are encouraging locals to arrive early, make use of public transport options including the Stockton ferry, and bring their own water.
Dogs are welcome on leash, and the site includes accessible parking and toilets to ensure the day is inclusive for all.
The Newcastle Mother’s Day Classic takes place at Griffith Park on the Stockton Foreshore on Sunday, 10 May. Registrations open at 7am, with the 5km run beginning at 8am and walk events from 8:30am.
