Take a trip to days gone by as part of the 2022 Hunter Valley Steamfest when it hits Maitland in July.
After postponements, Steamfest will finally get to celebrate its 35th year with a massive program of family-friendly entertainment, live music, roving performance, historic heritage walks, market stalls, gourmet food stalls and, of course, steam trains!
One of the highlights of the event is the ARTC Great Train Race, which will feature steam locomotives 3801, 6029, 5917 and R766 running parallel together whilst racing a Tiger Moth aeroplane. And you can be a part of the action on board one of the trains!
In fact, a ride on one of the many unique train trips the festival has to offer is one of the most sought-after experiences of the whole event.
Besides the Train Race, you’ll also be able to take a journey through the Hunter Valley behind the legendary 5917 as it steams from Maitland on the Singleton coal loop.
There are also rides between the Newcastle interchange and Maitland, trips to Patterson and Branxton and a ride that takes on the Port Waratah Coal coal loop.
Off the track, there’s an interactive Rally Ground display on Saturday 30 July an impressive showcase of motoring history at the annual Show ‘n’ Shine which will bring Maitland Park to life on Sunday 31 July and heaps of food stalls, live rock ‘n’ roll entertainment and family-friendly fun.
You can experience one of Australia’s premier festivals of steam when Hunter Valley Steamfest 2022 hits Maitland on the weekend of the 30th and 31st of July 2022. For more information and tickets visit steamfest.com.au.
