This weekend’s Cinema Under The Stars event has been cancelled

UPDATE: The Newcastle Permanent’s Cinema Under the Stars event, scheduled for Saturday 22 October, has been cancelled due to forecasted poor weather conditions. Details on a new date for the event have yet to be released.

Families and film lovers will flock to King Edward Park on 22 October 2022 when the Newcastle Permanent rolls out the red carpet for a very special Cinema Under the Stars.

After two years one of the city’s favourite events will return with a free screening of the feel-good animation Sing 2 which is rated PG.

It’s going to be a jam-packed evening, which kicks off at 5 pm, and will also feature family-friendly entertainment like live music, and children’s activities.

The free popcorn will be flowing when the feature film begins at sundown, and there will be a lineup of food vendors serving everything from snacks to hearty dinner options.

“Cinema Under the Stars is always so well received by the community, with thousands of people of all ages coming along to enjoy a night of fun and laughter – and popcorn, of course,” Newcastle Permanent CEO Bernadette Inglis said.

“After two years feeling disconnected from each other, this is the perfect opportunity to share an experience with our friends, family and neighbours in the open air of King Edward Park, one of Newcastle’s most beautiful locations. With its natural amphitheatre, it’s made for movies.

“Bring along your rug and a picnic, and don’t be shy about joining in with some of the great songs in Sing 2!

“As a customer-owned organisation, it’s wonderful to again be hosting Cinema Under the Stars for our community. While this is a special one-off spring event, stay tuned for the summer schedule – coming soon!”

Families are also welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy and there will also be a free shuttle bus operating in the local area during the night.

Newcastle Permanent’s Cinema Under the Stars returns to King Edward Park on 22 October with a screening of Sing 2 rated PG. The event beings at 5 pm with the film screening at Sundown. Visit newcastlepermanent.com.au/cinema for more information.
