Tantrum Youth Arts will once again throw open the doors for emerging artists in the Hunter region as part of their annual SHOWROOM industry day.
The day provides a unique opportunity for emerging artists to connect with industry professionals, learn from their expertise, and engage in important conversations about arts practice.
This year, Tantrum has introduced a pay-what-you-can ticketing model in response to the Australia Council for the Arts’ Audience Outlook Monitor, which highlighted the impact of cost-of-living pressures on young people’s attendance at cultural events.
By making SHOWROOM accessible to all, Tantrum aims to create a supportive and inclusive environment for emerging artists to thrive.
“One of the most important parts of being an artist is hanging out with other artists, talking about what youโre working on, what you aspire to, swapping tips and building those important connections,” Tantrumโs Creative Director Nel Kentish said
“SHOWROOM brings together the emerging artists of the region to do just that, while also engaging in valuable moments of learning and networking with professional arts practitioners.”
One of the highlights of this year’s program will be a masterclass led by Robbi James, Chief Executive Officer and Director of Critical Stages Touring, Australia’s premier touring body.
This masterclass is tailored for emerging and independent artists looking to produce and present their own work or explore touring opportunities for new projects.
Attendees will also have the opportunity to see a presentation of works-in-development by Tantrum’s Trajectory program artists-in-residence including Joshua Ingle’s audiovisual art-installation, September Jones‘ experiential map-making journey, and Angela Kowalski’s unique fusion of poetry and dance in a live performance.
On top of all that emerging artists will get the chance to network and connect with other artists and take part in a discussion panel featuring both emerging and established independent artists.
SHOWROOM 2023 will take place this Saturday, 24 June, from 11.00 am at Tantrum Youth Arts on 101 City Road in Merewether. Visit tantrum.org.au to find out more.
