There’s no denying that we Novocastrians love our dogs. In fact, there are around 45,000 of the cute little critters registered in our fair city.
Well, it’s time to start thinking about showing some of that love to the awesome Newy not-for-profit organisation Dog Rescue Newcastle given that it’s fancy fundraising drive the Fur Ball is just around the corner.
Originally slated for May 23, the inaugural event had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic but has thankfully been rescheduled to Friday 25 September.
Kicking off at 6pm at Merewether Surfhouse, the Fur Ball will be a glammed-up night of great food, great entertainment and a great cause.
Given that events like this have been VERY few and far between of late, the chance to spend a Saturday off the couch, oust of the onesie, and strutting your stuff in your finest formal threads should be an enticing one.
Kicking off back in 2008, Dog Rescue Newcastle was started by Sue Barker and Anne Ward and has since gone on to re-home more than 6000 dogs and 600 cats whose outcomes would otherwise be much less fortunate.
In fact, Dog Rescue Newcastle is the second largest rescue group in the state and it currently has around 130 dogs in foster care.
Also the organisation is staffed entirely bu volunteers and receives no government funding so fundraising initiatives like the Fur Ball are essential in ensuring Newcastle Dog Rescue’s survival.
