Indie rock stalwarts The Rubens will be making their way to the bay next year for a summer show to remember.
Hot on the heels of releasing one of the most infectious summer jams in recent memory, Live In Life, the four-piece will kick start 2020 in style with a show at Shoal Bay Country Club on Friday 24 January.
The new track blends The Rubens’ signature hooky choruses with a shadowy undertone. It follows a guy over the course of one night as he comes to terms with the gravity of a relationship breakdown.
As the sun sets, heโs feeling positive about the next chapter โ a feeling thatโs quickly trumped by the weight of regret as night falls, by which point the damage is done and he realises itโs time to move on.
The track marks somewhat of a sonic departure for the My Gun hitmakers, eschewing their trademark soulful rock sound for a much more electronic vibe.
Live In Life follows the recent single Falling Asleep At The Wheel, a collaboration with US punk-hip hop start Vic Mensa, which was premiered by Zane Lowe on Beats 1 and live at this yearโs Splendour in the Grass to a packed Amphitheatre at sunset.
This year has also seen The Rubens travel to North America, UK & Europe for headline tours, perform and release their MTV Unplugged Live In Melbourne album.
This follows from a hugely successful 2018 for the Rubens that saw the band release its third studio album Lo La Ru which nabbed an ARIA top five slot, as well as supporting Pink on her 46-date Australian tour.
Not bad at all.
