Newcastle outfit Safe Hands have surprised fans this weekend, dropping their new 4-track EP out of nowhere on Saturday morning.
Disenchanted, I’m Sure, is out now on Spotify and Bandcamp. The album cover is distinctly novocastrian; a photo of a typical Saturday night doing Karaoke at The Hamilton Station Hotel.
Inside the EP, there’s nothing that could be considered typical; Safe Hands are a band that are always going one step further. Starting out a decade ago, adding a chaotic flair to Newcastle’s burgoning Metalcore scene – Safe Hands have softened their sound over the years – blending elements of Post-Hardcore, Emo, and Indie Rock.
This EP is a follow up to their 2016 album Tie Your Soul To Mine, one of the most impressive outputs from a Newcastle band in recent memory. On this new EP, Safe Hands expand on all the elements they dipped their toe into on their album. The band have found a way to completely change their sound, but never lose any intensity. This EP marks the first release from Safe Hands not to feature any screaming – and it feels just as natural as any other release from the band.
Disenchanted, I’m Sure was recorded by Lincoln Le Fevre, who lends his vocals on lead single ‘Pine’. It was recorded at Woodriver Studios, a new recording studio just off Hunter Street.
