Newcastle is once again rallying behind an important cause, with hundreds of locals expected to lace up their runners for the 2025 Mother’s Day Classic.
Part of a national movement taking place across 85 locations, the event invites participants to walk or run in support of life-saving breast and ovarian cancer research.
The Mother’s Day Classic, now in its 28th year, has raised more than $47 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation since it began.
Last year marked the first time participants could also fundraise for ovarian cancer research, leading to an impressive $1.2 million donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation alongside $2.1 million for breast cancer initiatives.
Organisers have noted a rising trend in participants opting to run rather than walk, with a 10 percent increase nationally — a trend reflected in Newcastle as more locals tap into the social and wellbeing benefits of moving together.
Whether running in memory of a loved one, supporting someone currently fighting cancer, or simply embracing the chance to make a difference, Newcastle’s community is set to make every step count.
The 2025 Mother’s Day Classic is happening on Sunday, 11 May. The Newcastle event starts at Griffith Park, Wharf Crescent, Stockton Foreshore. Registrations are now open via mothersdayclassic.com.au.
