Newcastle’s live music community is rallying together for a powerful cause this month, with Rock for Amelia set to take over The Hamilton Station Hotel next weekend.

Featuring six local acts and headlined by funk powerhouse Saylor & The Flavor, the night aims to raise critical funds for 26-year-old Amelia Keam’s rehabilitation after a rare and devastating stroke-induced spinal injury.

Amelia’s story has struck a deep chord in the Newy music scene. Just last month, she was enjoying a gig at The Hamo when she suddenly went into cardiac arrest.

Thanks to the fast action of bystanders and paramedics, her life was saved — but the stroke that followed left her paralysed from the neck down and reliant on a ventilator to breathe.

The benefit show features a huge lineup of local talent, including Hey Lenny, Aunty Alan & The Uncools, IV, Loose Zippers, and Bardvarkk.

Doors open at 6pm, with all ticket sales going directly to Amelia’s GoFundMe to support her ongoing care and recovery. Additional fundraising efforts will also be announced on the night.

Amelia is now fully conscious but unable to speak or move her limbs, communicating only through eye movements and mouthing words.

Early and intensive rehabilitation offers the best chance of recovery, but it comes with enormous medical costs.

The fundraiser will help cover everything from specialist care to therapy and daily living expenses.

With a strong sense of community at its heart, Rock for Amelia promises to be a chance for locals to come together, support one of their own, and prove once again that this city knows how to show up when it matters most.

Rock for Amelia is set to take over The Hamilton Station Hotel on Saturday, 24 May 2025. Be sure to grab your tickets now, or if you can’t make it on the night, donate directly to Amelia’s GoFundMe.
