ROAD TRIP: U2 confirm Sydney Joshua Tree stadium show!

Irish rock icons U2 have will head Down Under for the first time in nine years, bringing their massive Joshua Tree tour to stadiums across Australia.

Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr, and Adam Clayton will hit the Sydney Cricket Ground on November 22 and to make things even more enticing, they’ll be bringing Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds along for the ride!

The show promises to be a celebration of the band’s legendary 1987 album The Joshua Tree and the subsequent world tour of the same name.

You can expect to hear the album played in full along with a hefty selection of highlights from U2’s extensive catalogue.

“It’s only taken me 30 years to learn how to sing these songs and it’s great to be able to say that I’ve finally caught up with the band,” Bono said in a statement.”

“Our audience has given the Joshua Tree a whole new life on this tour. Doing these shows has been very special for us, a lot of emotion… From the despair of how relevant some of the dark songs still are, to the joy, pure fun of the staging… it’s quite a ride.

“And now we get to do it all over again. Auckland, Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul… We’re coming for you”.

Renowned for their grandiose stadium shows, U2 are pulling out all the stops collaborating with celebrated filmmaker and long-time band collaborator Anton Corbijn (Control, A Most Wanted Man).

A specially commissioned series of Anton’s haunting and evocative films will loom large in brilliant 8k resolution on a 200 x 45-foot cinematic screen, the largest high-res LED screen ever used in a touring show.

In a first, all shows will have a paperless system for anyone purchasing stadium floor tickets which will be delivered via mobile devices 72 hours before the show.

There will also be an eight ticket limit for general public sales.

Tickets go on sale on Tuesday 11 June (times vary per city). U2.com subscribers will have first opportunity to purchase tickets starting Tuesday 4th June through Thursday 6 June with a four-ticket limit (see www.U2.com for details).
