The Levee in Maitland will be transformed into a sprawling global village when the 2022 Riverlights Multicultural Festival returns on Saturday, 8 October.
Eager linguists will even have the chance to pick up a new phrase, song or greeting at the festival’s Language Lounge. Foodies will be able to feast on dishes like Sri Lankan pancakes or traditional Bangladeshi fare and live music lovers will be treated to entertainment on various stages dotted around the event.
โWith authentic food, dance and experiences hailing from as far and wide as France, Sri Lanka and Kenya, Riverlights reflects the multicultural makeup of Maitlandโs people,โ Events Officer Beth Anastasiou said.
โWhether you want to sample something new or seek out a firm favourite from somewhere familiar, thereโs something for everyone at one of the many cultural villages at Riverlights.โ
Festival goers are invited to document the evening by picking up a free Cultural Passport, where they can stamp each experience as they wind their way through the stalls and sites.
Presenting partners, the Greater Bank will have staff stationed at The Levee, working alongside the community to build lots of lanterns for the eventโs glittering finale, where the evening culminates with a flotilla of illuminating lanterns floating on the waters of the Hunter River.
“Thereโll also be some giveaways on the day for those who come and make a lantern,โ Mr Boyd says. โSo please come along, join us and get involved โ itโll be great fun,” Greater Bank Regional Manager Will Boyd said
“The multicultural aspect of Maitland is fantastic, and itโs going to be a delight to see all the communities and nationalities come together as one for this event.”
