Get set for a massive weekend of tattoos, art, music and culture!
After six incredibly successful festivals in Melbourne, the Rites of Passage Festival will make its Sydney debut from the 14th – 16th October at Sydney Olympic Park.
Festival visitors will have the chance to see incredible artwork up close through the daily tattoo competitions. From best black & grey tattoo to best colour, portrait, linework Japanese tattoos and more, artists will showcase their work in front of highly regarded industry judges.
The 2016 line-up will feature over 250 top artists from Australia and around the world. Honey Ink will be represented at the event with local talent Jack Fowler showcasing his skills, we had the opportunity to chat with Jack about being a tattoo artist in today’s industry and what to look out for at this year’s Rites Of Passage.
How long have you been a tattoo artist for?
I have been in the tattoo industry for about 3 years!
How did you get into the business of tattoo artistry?
I have always been very interested in art itself and thought what better way to get my art out there than to have people walk around with it on them and show other people. I was given a job at my first shop in about 2013, and havenโt looked back since.
Whatโs the strangest artwork request youโve had from a client?
I had one bloke ask if he could get himself as a fisherman casting a line on himself. Itโ where he wanted the tattoo and where the line was going was the strange part haha!
Whatโs your favourite colour to work with and why?
I have never been a massive fan of colour tattoos, so to answer truthfully…
it would be light black, medium black, and dark black hahaha. #blackandgrey
Whatโs the worst part of the body to tattoo and why?
For me, the worst part of the body to tattoo is the neck or the ribs… Skin on the neck is usually very rough.. and on the ribs just sucks
Tell us what youโre most looking forward to at Rites of Passage?
I have attended Rites Of Passage at Melbourne, out of all the expos I have been to and worked at Rites has the most to offer hands down. To the bike shows, the miss ink contest, and all the great artists from across the globe attending!
