The Dinosaurs: Surviving Extinction exhibition is headed to Newcastle for the school holidays.
Hosted by Newcastle Museum, the exhibit promises to take young palaeontologists on a journey through 145 million years of history with an impressive showcase of fossils, bones, and interactive displays.
Designed by Gondwana Studios, Dinosaurs: Surviving Extinction aims to educate and entertain by highlighting the survival stories of dinosaurs, from apex predators to the ancestors of modern birds.
The exhibition will feature over 100 unique items, including hands-on dig pits, touchable fossils, and life-sized skeletons. Among the highlights are a nine-metre skeleton of a carnivorous dinosaur and a collection of baby dinosaurs and nests.
“This will be a fantastic day out for kids, families and visitors of any age. An encounter with a dinosaur in a museum is a treasured memory for many of us and it’s fantastic that those memories are being made in our Newcastle Museum,” City of Newcastle Director of Museum, Archive, Libraries & Learning, Julie Baird said.
“The setup for Dinosaurs: Surviving Extinction is impressive on its own. This is a sensory collection of everything from eggs to full-scale predators, coming together piece by piece before any other city gets to see it.
“My advice to any up-and-coming palaeontologist is to look out for suspiciously large footprints around Newcastle, which provide more details on this wonderful exhibition.”
Dinosaurs: Surviving Extinction will run from 28 September 2024 until 2 March 2025 at Newcastle Museum. Ticket prices start from $7.50 for children, $15 for adults and $40 for a family of four. Visit newcastlemuseum.com.au to find out more.
