Maitland’s key transport hub is set for a major transformation, with Maitland City Council securing $1 million in funding as part of the NSW Government’s reVITALise – Public Transport Precinct Vibrancy Grant.
The project, titled Next Stop: Maitland, aims to enhance Maitland Station and its surroundings, making the area safer, more accessible, and more inviting for residents, businesses, and visitors alike.
The initiative will focus on improving connectivity between Maitland Station and key locations such as Maitland Park, Maitland Regional Art Gallery, and the CBD.
To ensure the community’s needs and ideas shape the final outcome, Maitland City Council has launched an online survey and will host a series of walkshops.
Additionally, the upgrades will complement other regional infrastructure projects, including the Morpeth to Rutherford Shared Pathway Project, strengthening Maitland’s role as a vital transport link in the Hunter region.
Maitland is one of seven councils to receive funding from Transport for NSW’s $7 million grant program, which aims to create vibrant and active public transport precincts.
Enhancements could include new seating and shaded areas, improved lighting, landscaping, public art installations, and practical additions like bike racks and mobile phone charging stations.
Final works for Next Stop: Maitland are expected to be completed by May 2026. Community members are encouraged to participate in the planning process by taking the survey or attending a walkshop. Fill out the survey and find all of the details at mait.city/RevitaliseMaitlandStation.
