Finally putting down the THAT massive hammer (at least for a bit) Australian ab enthusiast Chris Hemsworth is back in the gritty Netflix action flick Extraction
Possessing arguably one of the best action hero names in recent memory, Hemsworth plays Tyler Rake – a grizzled ex-special forces bod turned mercenary with a tragic past (because you know….action movies).
Our Chris is hired by an Indian drug boss to extract his sons Ovi who is being held by daddy’s drug rivals in the Bangladeshi city Dhaka.
But if you’ve seen one action flick, you’d know these best-laid plans rarely go off without a hitch and before too long the pair find themselves in a world of hurt, blood, bullets, blown up cars, punched faces
Should I watch it?
If you go in to Extraction for the story, you’re going to be left a little underwhelemed.
But if you’re after nothing more than an hour hour or so of visceral action, whip smart set pieces and more bang, bang, shoot shoot than you can poke a stick at, then you’re in for a pretty good time.
While never reaching the same bloody heights as the Keanu Reeves bullet opera John Wick, Extraction still offers up its fair share of edge-of-your-seatness – a highlight of which is a thrilling 12-minute single-shot sequence that sees our hero and his charge subjected to nearly every movie chase trope ever committed to celluloid – jumping off roofs car chases hand to hand combat – it’s all here in one tightly packed scene.
It’s not surprising that the action sequences are so stellar given that first-time director Sam Hargrave was the stunt coordinator on the lives of Avengers: Endgame, Deadpool 2 and Suicide Squad.
