Newcastle foodie institution, Doughheads have today opened their first flagship store, and we were there to taste all the goodness. Located in The Junction Fair on Union St, the opening showcased everything we’ve come to love about Doughheads and offered a glimpse into what the future holds.

The first thing to note is that you can watch the doughchefs (yes, we know that’s a made up word) at work, behind a glass window! It was interesting (and not a bad perv), watching all the different doughcreations (see what we’re doing here) being made.

We ordered a delicious hot chocolate and coffee that was shortly served to our table by one of the baristas. The staff were dressed in aprons that carried a contracted version of the Doughheads logo.

The vibe of the room is laid back but not hipster, and we like that. Lots of basic wood and painted brick. There’s a massive table in the middle of the room that’s ringed by small booths.

Now we have to admit that it was all over when the samples started coming around. Sugar took over, and everything else is a blur. All we can say is, plain cinnamon, gaytime and strawberry pistachio. Yum yum yum… food coma.

The photos tell the story.
